Summer Term 2024

Term 6

This term we will be learning all about WW1.  We will look at how the war started, what life was like for soldiers and people at home as well as how it ended and is remembered.  We will look at War poetry as part of this unit and be reading the book Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo as our class reading book to deepen our understanding of events.

In maths this term we will be looking at how to add and subtract decimals before moving on to multiplying and dividing decimal numbers.  We will then look at how to order and compare negative numbers.  Our third topic will be measures where we will look at a range of different measurements and learn how to convert imperial to metric measures.  Our last topic this term is volume and capacity where we will look at calculating and estimating.

Term 5

This term we are learning all about the Slave Trade

We will be thinking about the trade routes involved, the impact of the slave trade on an economic and personal level.  The ways that slaves rebelled and escaped to gain back their freedom and key figures involved in this as well as the abolition of slavery.

In maths this term we will be looking at statistics and how to represent data.  We will move on to thinking about shapes including recognising and measuring angles, calculating angles and thinking about regular and irregular polygons.  We will also start our unit of work on decimals and learn how to add and subtract decimals.

On top of this we are introducing a Times Tables Rock Stars challenge 3x a week to improve our fast recall of times tables.
