Welcome Back to Term 4 - Learning About Abingdon!

Dear Parents,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you and your child had a restful and enjoyable half term break. We are excited to welcome everyone back to school for Term 4, where we will be embarking on an exciting learning journey exploring our local area of Abingdon.

As part of our curriculum focus for this term, Year 2 students will be diving into the history, geography, and culture of Abingdon. We aim to deepen their understanding of our community and develop their appreciation for our local surroundings. Through various engaging activities and projects, your child will have the opportunity to explore Abingdon's rich heritage, landmarks, and traditions.

In order to support your child's learning about Abingdon, you could, if you wanted to:

  • visit Abingdon and the River Thames
  • research about its past in local papers / books
  • engage in conversations about Abingdon's history, significant locations, and community life.
  • talk to residents – old and young
  • undertake a home-learning project (which can be shown at school as a ‘Show ‘n’ tell’.

Additionally, we would like to remind you of the importance of reading at home. Reading with your child for a few minutes each day can make a significant difference in their literacy development. We kindly ask that you continue to encourage and support your child's reading habits by setting aside dedicated time for shared reading activities. You may also want to explore books related to Abingdon or stories set in local areas to further ignite their curiosity about our town.

If you have any questions or suggestions related to this term's learning focus, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's class teacher or the school office. We are always happy to assist you.

Once again, we look forward to a fantastic Term 4, filled with exploration, discovery, and a deeper understanding of Abingdon!

Warm regards,

Mrs Durman (Year 2 Teacher), and the Year 2 team
