February 2024 - Term 4
Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful half term break!
This term, each class is completing a local study. In Eagles this will be Car Production in Cowley.
In our reading lessons this term, we are exploring a range of texts with Mrs Cooper. This is to broaden children's literary diet and to expose them to a range of text types including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. With Mrs Kidd we are studying the novel ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’.
In our writing lessons, we will soon be creating a warning tale, which aims to teach a safety lesson. Our model text is called 'Keep off the Tracks', which teaches its reader to play safely and not to go near railway tracks. As well as this, we will also be creating a persuasive advert based on a gadget the children have designed. The children's aim is to persuade their reader that they must have their state-of-the-art gadget. We are really looking forward to reading their finished pieces.
In maths, we are coming to the end of our current unit on algebra - the children have worked extremely hard and have really enjoyed tackling this unit. This half term, we will be exploring fractions, decimals, percentages, area, perimeter and volume. We will also be continuing to practise our arithmetic skills every day including the ‘Tough Ten' challenge, which requires the children to solve ten questions in ten minutes - although the time may be shortened at some point...
Here are our topics for other areas of the curriculum:
Science - Scientists and Inventors
RE – Race and Diversity
PSHE – Healthy Me
PE – Netball and Outdoor Activities
Music - Violin
Spanish – The Home
Computing – Data
We have been very proud of the resilience, determination and hard work of Eagles class and look forward to continuing this throughout Term 4.

January 2024 - Term 3
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and wishing you all a happy new year!
The children in Eagles class have begun exploring their new topic: Windrush.
To consolidate our learning from last term, we have begun exploring Where the River Runs Gold, which tackles themes including climate change. The children have been enjoying this book so far. Next, we will be studying Catherine Bruton's No Ballet Shoes in Syria, to support children in their ability to emphasise with refugees and the struggles that they may face. The children will be able to make links with their learning in humanities which focuses on The Windrush this term. In our writing lessons, we are beginning to write reports and basing this on the knowledge we gained around fears and phobias from our suspense writing last term.
In maths, we will be starting the term learning about measure before exploring ratio, algebra and decimals. In addition to this, we will also be continuing to practise our arithmetic skills every day including the ‘Tough Ten' challenge, which requires the children to solve ten questions in ten minutes - although the time may be shortened at some point...

Science - Living Things and Their Habitats
PSHE – Dream and goals
PE – Indoor games or Netball and gymnastics
Music - Violin
