Summer 2024

Term 5 (Summer 1)

A small taster of what we have in store for this term!

Dear Parents,

Hello everyone,

Exciting news! Term 5 is here, and we have some awesome stuff lined up for Blackbirds. Check out what's in store:

In history, get ready to dive into the world's most amazing inventions. From electricity to Penicillin, we'll be uncovering the stories behind these game-changers. Chat about this at home for some extra fun!

We will be writing about some of our newly found knowledge in English. Children will be learning how to write a non-chronological report (a fact file!) about an invention. They will also be learning to write poetry.

In maths, not only will we be continuing to learn our times tables (x2, x5, x10) but we will also be finding out about measurements (capacity, volume and length). Please continue to help your children at home by counting (up in 2s, 5s, 10s – forward and backwards) and strengthening fluency in number (using Numbots, TTRS and Topmarks).

In Science, we're all about 'Living Things and Their Habitats'. Your children will be getting hands-on exploring different creatures and environments. Why not take a nature walk together to make it even more exciting?

Our PSHE lessons will focus on relationships this term. It's super important stuff for developing social skills. Chat about the value of good relationships at home too!

For PE, it's all about athletics and cricket. These sports are not just about staying fit but also about teamwork. Get involved by practicing together at home and cheering them on at school events!

Children will be once again partaking in Forest School. Make sure they have their kit on the correct day, as well as vital protection against the sun (sun screen, hats, water-bottle) and rain (raincoats, warmer clothing if necessary)

If you've got any questions or just want a chat, don't hesitate to drop us a message. Let's work together to make this term a blast for your child.

Many thanks,

Mrs Durman – Class teacher
Miss Painton, Miss Barrett, Miss Bloomfield and Mrs Gibbard – Year 2 Support Staff
