June 2022 - Term 6
Hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful half term break and welcome to Term 6! The final term of the school year!
This term, our topic is Covid-19.
In our reading lessons, we are currently exploring 'Can You See Me?' by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott. This is a story about learning to celebrate yourself, which ties in with the Jigsaw puzzle piece that we explored at the beginning of the year - Celebrating Our Differences. It tells the story of eleven-year-old Tally, who is just about to take the next step into secondary school so it has opened up lots of topical discussions for the children.
In our writing lessons, we have begun our next unit on newspaper reports. The children are currently in the Imitation stage of the writing process and have been exploring the model text, which is linked to Macbeth. The children will be writing their own newspaper report about a topic of their choice and I am really looking forward to reading these in the coming weeks!
In maths, we are revisiting key areas of the curriculum this term in order to prepare children with the skills needed for a smooth transition into secondary maths. We are focusing particularly on written methods, fractions, decimals and percentages. We are also spending more time on areas that we visited briefly prior to SATs including, algebra, shapes and ratio. As well as this, we will continue to practise our arithmetic skills each day.
Here are our topics for other areas of the curriculum:
Science - Evolution and Inheritance
RE - Judaism
PSHE – Changing Me
PE – Frisbee and Rounders
Music - Brass
Design and Technology – Cooking and Sewing
Spanish – Weather
Computing – Data handling 2
Eagles class have also been working extremely hard in their rehearsals for Bugsy Malone. The performance so far is looking amazing and many members of staff have commented on how impressed they are with the children's acting, singing and dancing. We cannot wait to share all their hard work with you in July!
We have lots of exciting events to look forward to in this final term and we will be making many special memories for the children to take with them on their next exciting adventure into secondary school!

April 2022 - Term 5
Hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful Easter break and welcome to Term 5!
This term, our topic is William Shakespeare and we are all really looking forward to learning about his life and work - including immersing ourselves within his work during our upcoming trip!
In our reading lessons this term, we are exploring a different text each day. This is to broaden children's literary diet and to expose them to a range of text types including fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
In our writing lessons, we are creating a warning tale with a key lesson for all children to learn. Our model text is called 'Keep off the Tracks!', which explores the dangers of playing on or near train tracks. The children have shown a great maturity when discussing this text and are beginning to form ideas for their invention, in which they will choose their own important life lesson to teach others.
In maths, we are currently in the midst of our unit on properties of shapes. The children have enjoyed learning about angles and how to use protractors. We will also be spending time revising the maths curriculum this term, in order to prepare children for their upcoming SATs and to consolidate their learning. As well as this, we will be continuing to practise our arithmetic skills every day including the ‘Tough Ten' challenge, which requires the children to solve ten questions in ten minutes - although the time may be shortened at some point...
Here are our topics for other areas of the curriculum:
Science - Animals including humans
RE - Judaism
PSHE – Relationships
PE – Athletics and cricket
Music - Brass
Art – Calligraphy
Spanish – Weather
Computing – Data handling 1
Eagles class have had a brilliant start to this term and have shown a good retention of the knowledge they have learned so far this year. We are all really looking forward to the children continuing their hard work and for the exciting events we have planned this term.
We are also delighted to welcome Mrs Sallum to our class, who will be working in Eagles every morning this term.
