Spring Term

January 2022 - Spring Term 1

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and wishing you all a happy new year!

The children in Eagles class have begun exploring their new topic: Windrush.

In line with our new topic, we will soon be exploring Shaun Tan's The Arrival, which should spark some fascinating discussions about migration. Year 6 will soon be writing their own story inspired by this powerful graphic novel and I am looking forward to seeing what they produce! Alongside this, we will be studying Catherine Bruton's No Ballet Shoes in Syria, to support children in their ability to emphasise with refugees and the struggles that they may face.

In maths, we are coming to the end of our current unit on fractions - the children have worked extremely hard and can now add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions! This half term, we will be exploring decimals, percentages and ratio. In addition to this, we will also be continuing to practise our arithmetic skills every day including the ‘Tough Ten' challenge, which requires the children to solve ten questions in ten minutes - although the time may be shortened at some point...

Here are our topics for other areas of the curriculum:

Science - Living Things and Their Habitats

RE - Judaism

PSHE – Dream and goals

PE – Sports leadership and cricket

Music - Brass

Art – Race and cultural art

Spanish – Do you have a pet?

Computing – Computing systems and networks: Bletchley Park

Eagles class have had a fantastic start to this half term and are working extremely hard each and every day. We are very proud of their efforts and are looking forward to this continuing through the term.
