March 2022 - Term 4
Hope you all had a wonderful half term break!
This term, each class is completing a local study. The children in Eagles class have begun exploring their new topic: Car Production in Cowley.
In our reading lessons this term, we are exploring a different text each day. This is to broaden children's literary diet and to expose them to a range of text types including fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
In our writing lessons, we are creating a persuasive advert based on a gadget the children have designed. We have a whole range of ideas in the class - from 'Super Sneakers' to 'Climber Belts'! The children's aim is to persuade their reader that they must have their state-of-the-art gadget. We are really looking forward to reading their finished pieces.
In maths, we are coming to the end of our current unit on percentages - the children have worked extremely hard and can now convert between fractions, decimals and percentages! This half term, we will be exploring measures, ratio, algebra and statistics. We will also be continuing to practise our arithmetic skills every day including the ‘Tough Ten' challenge, which requires the children to solve ten questions in ten minutes - although the time may be shortened at some point...
Here are our topics for other areas of the curriculum:
Science - Scientists and Inventors
RE - Judaism
PSHE – Healthy Me
PE – Sports leadership and indoor games
Music - Brass
Art – Mechanics
Spanish – Weather
Computing – Programming: Intro to Python

Year 6 will soon be writing their own story inspired by this powerful graphic novel and I am looking forward to seeing what they produce! Alongside this, we will be studying Catherine Bruton's No Ballet Shoes in Syria, to support children in their ability to emphasise with refugees and the struggles that they may face.
In maths, we are coming to the end of our current unit on fractions - the children have worked extremely hard and can now add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions! This half term, we will be exploring decimals, percentages and ratio.
